Due to maintenance and normal test of fiber optic jumper, fiber adapter will meet frequent insertion and plug, so it has certain requirement for the the plug life of the sleeve, the maximum pluggable life, namely, under normal use conditions, the specified times is 500 to 1000 times(general requirement), during the pluggable life, there is no mechanical damage , additional loss does not exceed the limit value (usually defined as 0.2dB), plug life of optical fiber connector is generally decided by wear and breakage of ferrule and sleeve. When slotted zirconia sleeve is used, the wear of ceramic sleeve can be avoid and broken is the main factor that affects life of adapter . Fragmentation reason of ceramic sleeve is very complex, summed up there are the following situations: (1) the strength of the ceramic sleeve is too low, can not withstand the plug stress. (2) ceramic sleeve is broken due to static fatigue. (3) under the condition of high temperature and humidity for a long time, a large number of tetragonal phase and monoclinic phase happened and reduce the strength of the sleeve.(4) concentric stress caused by artificial or non normal insertion. (5) the quality of metal or nonmetal flange is not qualified.
So the quality of the sleeve will decide the quality and use life of the fiber optic adapter.
